Elsa Bonstein

Elsa Bonstein is a child of Finnish immigrants, Arvo and Elvi Latomaa. She grew up on a small farm in rural North East, Maryland and graduated from North East High School. She served as editor of the school newspaper and president of the National Honor Society. The family’s circle of friends included Swedes, Danes and other Finns who also owned small farms in and around Cecil County. She is fluent in Finnish and has visited her parent’s home country several times. Her earliest memory is sitting in her father’s lap while he read “The Secret Garden” to her in Finnish.

An only child with an addiction to reading, she always wanted to be a writer and to touch others as she had been touched by her favorite authors. She attended Syracuse University, graduating with a BA in Sociology and Journalism.

Married and living in New Jersey with four daughters, Elsa started freelancing for various newspapers and magazines, including the Asbury Park Press, New Jersey Living, New Jersey Woman and others publications. She wrote business articles, restaurant reviews, op-ed pieces, feature articles, children’s stories, and humor.

Today, she lives in North Carolina. She has written for the Brunswick Beacon and other publications. Her popular column (Golf Gab) won several awards over the past 14 years. A series on hospice care which chronicled the last six weeks in the life of a cancer patient won an award from Landmark Publications, the parent company of the Brunswick Beacon.

An avid golfer, Elsa served for seven years as a founding board member and PR Chair of The First Tee of Brunswick County. Today, her PR Handbook is used by the nearly 200 chapters of The First Tee both here and abroad.

FIND EDSELL! is her first novel. She writes the kind of fiction she reads, edgy thrillers with a hint (sometimes more than a hint) of romance.

FIND EDSELL! received the “Mark of Excellence” from Writer’s Digest Magazine. A gold symbol now appears on each book designating it as a book of high literary merit. Elsa attended the July 31-August 2 Writer’s Conference in New York City as a guest of Writer’s Digest.
